From 2001 onwards, my Deputy Mayor, Christophe Girard, and myself decided that the City of Paris would strongly back the film industry in all its forms.
Supporting independent movie theatres, fostering cinematographic education, helping associations and festivals that contribute to the diversity of the cinematographic landscape: these are a few initiatives that prove the ever growing love of Paris for cinema.
I particularly want to encourage filming activities and the cinematographic and audiovisual production because they are important sources of jobs and economic fallouts and contribute to the prestige of Paris in France and worldwide.
In 2006, 730 crews have chosen to film in our city instead of 660 in 2005. Such a kin interest for Paris required to define the rights and duties of each partner in a filming charter signed in January 2006. But it was also imperative to facilitate the preparation work and help film makers to choose their future filming spots.
This new bilingual website targeted at professionals presents a virtual visit, photographies, descriptions and contacts: a genuine working tool that gives visitors the valuable information they need.
I hope that thanks to this site, the movie industry will thrive in Paris and I wish you a very pleasant visit.
